Thompson Springs is the project of Chicagoan Matt Smith. His hazy songwriting, which PBS called "western rock,” and love of the road and unknown, has led the band down a circuitous route on tours across Europe, New Zealand, and the expanse of America. Detroit Public Radio (WDET) noted that they pull influences from classic songwriters, like Tom Petty, to more recent indie artists, like Kurt Vile. Thompson Springs started working with Kurt Vile collaborator Rob Laakso as well as Wilco’s Pat Sansone for their debut album, Undertones, which they released on Dropped Beauty Recordings in 2020. 2023 will bring a new album, Standby, produced by Pat Keen of Humbird, and recorded live, featuring the full 6 piece band and the debut of harmonica player Ryan Suzuka.

Four free concerts will be held on select Fridays throughout the summer at Swanny City Park. The free concerts are open to the public, and folks are encouraged to come with their friends and families. Beer and wine will be available for the adults. The concert stage will be set up adjacent to the pavilion, providing a perfect picnic spot for all under the large cottonwoods and a playground for the kiddos. We encourage everyone to walk, bike, or use the MAT to attend the concerts. Showtime is 6 to 9 PM. Opening acts begin at 6 PM. Main Stage performers will start at 7 PM. KZMU Community Radio will livestream on 90.1 FM and kzmu.org.

Born in the backyards of Utah, forged in the wilds of Alaska, and tested on the road across 17 states, The Last Wild Buffalo is more than just a band—it’s a movement. A stomp-and-holler folk powerhouse blending folk, rock, americana, bluegrass, and a rebellious streak of punk, they exploded onto the scene with and energy and a sound that feels as untamed as the landscapes that shaped them.
