Community Calendar

On the third Tuesday of every month, the historic Electric Theater hosts a FREE screening of a noteworthy film from the past.

Each movie will include an intro and post-screening discussion with a special guest.

It's an epic journey through the history of film one decade at a time, starting with the 1900s/1910s and closing out with the 2020s.

Each month, a title has been selected that represents a decade of cinema.

Screening starts at 6 p.m.

Champions of the Golden Valley portrays the ability of mountain sports to inspire and unify community members, even in areas torn by war and conflict. The film follows Afghan native Alishah Farhang as he coaches a team of passionate and hardworking young adults in the Afghan village of Bamyan. The story also captures the collapse of the Afghan government and proceeding Taliban takeover that has led to the displacement of over 270,000 Afghans, hundreds of which are now resettled in Salt Lake City, Utah.

This screening is presented by the IRC in Utah, which is the local field office of the International Rescue Committee, a global humanitarian organization that has served those fleeing violence and disaster since 1933. The IRC in Utah opened its doors in 1994, since resettling over 14,200 refugees and providing vital services for thousands of other immigrants and new Americans, including case management, youth & education services, economic wellbeing support, and immigration legal services. Community events, like this, raise awareness about our local work & engage supporters to fundraise and increase support for the communities we serve.
