Gov. Cox Signs Porn Filtering Bill

Utah Governor Spencer Cox signed H.B. 72, a controversial bill which requires every technological device sold in the state of Utah to come with pre-installed pornography filters. According to the Associated Press, Cox said the measure would send an “important message” about preventing children from accessing explicit content online. Supporters of the bill agree, saying it’s an important step in helping parents keep it away from their children. However, critics are calling it a direct invasion of their First Amendment rights.

The measure won’t go into effect unless five other states enact similar laws. Because of this, Cox said he isn’t as worried about constitutional concerns at the moment.
