The National Park Service started free entry days in 2009. The selection and number of days have varied, but Martin Luther King Jr. Day has been on the list since 2011.

National Parks Week begins this weekend, kicking off with free entry to all parks on April 19. The park service says visitors may experience varying hours and other changes.
