A dry winter and one of the warmest springs on record has experts worried about the potential of wildfires on Utah’s West Desert. The Bureau of Land Management is issuing restrictions on BLM lands in Salt Lake, Utah, Tooele, Rich and Box Elder Counties.

A dry winter and one of the warmest springs on record has experts worried about the potential of wildfires on Utah’s West Desert. The Bureau of Land Management is issuing restrictions on BLM lands in Salt Lake, Utah, Tooele, Rich and Box Elder Counties.

The Three Creeks Project will implement cattle and sheep grazing on designated areas of land for short amounts of time. The grazing allotments are designed to limit large amounts of fuel for wild fires and maintain plant and soil health.

The Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service are working with livestock operators on the Three Creeks Project in northern Utah. The project is an effort between federal agencies and locals to improve rangeland health for over 135,000 acres in Cache and Rich Counties.

The federal Bureau of Land Management reportedly blocked at least 14 staff archaeologists — including some specialists from Utah — from attending a conference of the Society for American Archaeology in Washington, D.C. over cost concerns

The staffers were scheduled to lead a symposium entitled "Tough Issues in Land Management Archaeology."

Suit Claims BLM Broke Law With Oil And Gas Leases

Conservation groups say the U.S. Bureau of Land Management broke the law when it approved eight large oil and gas lease sales in Utah, Idaho, Montana, Nevada and Wyoming, and filed suite earlier this week in federal court.

When President Donald Trump came to Utah in December, he reorganized the boundaries of two national monuments in Utah. The areas of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante now contain five smaller national monuments.
