While schools adapt this year’s graduation ceremonies due to public health concerns, students, parents and teachers are adjusting to ceremonies they did not have in mind. Some Utahns have petitioned for traditional ceremonies, and some have organized creative graduation alternatives. 

Teachers in Canyons School District will recieve bonuses and pay raises starting in the 2018-2019 school year.

Canyons School District has raised the starting salary for new teachers and will hand out a one-time bonus to licensed educators.

The board voted unanimously Tuesday to hike the starting salary 4.5 percent, to $41,835, for the 2018-19 school year. Educators, including new hires, will also receive a one-time $500 bonus.

School officials say they have taken action after a baseball player used a racial slur against a player on the opposing team at a high school game in the Salt Lake City area.

Canyons School District launched an investigation Tuesday after multiple people overheard a Brighton High School player direct the slur Monday against a Jordan High School player who is black.
