Copies of at least nine different books have been pulled from the shelves at four high schools in the Canyons School District after a parent complained, in spite of official policy stating the challenged books should remain on the shelves until a decision is made.
Although the complaint was filed by a person who is not the parent of a high-school-aged student, the woman who complained has children in elementary and middle schools in the district. She expressed concern about sexually-explicit content in books, based on videos she came across on social media. The school district’s policy review committee met Tuesday to discuss the complaint and will evaluate the situation in order to decide how to proceed.
