Social distancing guidelines have made accessing healthcare challenging and in some cases impossible for people who have a disability or a chronic illness. And even when people could in theory access that care, the risks of infection leaving home creates may make them reluctant to venture out. One of these people struggling to access care is Lou McKee of Salt Lake City.

This year the Dingell Natural Resources Act was signed into law. This act designated over 600,000 acres of wilderness in Utah and created the San Rafael Swell Recreation Area. But not everyone is happy about this.

Goodwill Industries Of Kansas

A federal Affirmative Action requirement designed to help individuals with disabilities find employment has parents of children with intellectual or physical disabilities concerned. The regulation, known as the Settings Rule, forces people with disabilities to find a suitable job in their community in order to receive federal funding.

At an open house on September 7, Utah State University and the Utah Assistive Technology Program will celebrate the opening of the new Uintah Basin Assistive Technology Lab. The lab, which opened in early July in Roosevelt, provides services for people with disabilities.

For thirty years, volunteers from businesses, schools and church groups have been taking children with disabilities fishing. UPR’s Nick Herrmann spent the day at Salem Pond watching and recording as state wildlife workers taught more than a thousand youth with special needs the art of baiting and catching fish.
