The 2014 Utah Republican and Democratic Nominating Conventions took place Saturday where delegates represented their precincts, choosing nominees for state elections later this year.

At the Republican Convention incumbents Rob Bishop, Chris Stewart and Jason Chaffetz maintained their positions as nominees reaching the 60% support threshold after a first vote. Mia Love won the nomination for Legislative District 4, seeking to take the place of Jim Matheson who did not pursue re-election. Also, unopposed Sean Reyes received the nomination to represent the Republican Party in the race for Utah Attorney General.

At the Democratic Party Convention, Donna McAleer was chosen to represent District 1, reaching the necessary support threshold after a second vote. Also, Legislative District 4 Doug Owens was chosen to face Mia Love later this year. At the convention, Charles Stormont received the democratic nomination for Utah Attorney General and former mayor of Salt Lake County, Peter Corroon won the vote for the state Democratic Party chair.

The candidates will now face off during state primaries June 24 with candidates representing other parties such as the Utah Constitution Party, Utah Libertarian Party, and the Utah independent American Party.
