Cedar City Park Set to Reopen; Suspects Arrested in Vandalism Case

Chris Holmes

Anchor: After a weekend of clean up, a popular Cedar City park is set to reopen.  Park Discovery was closed after an incident of vandalism and graffiti late Friday.  Community volunteers helped speed up the cleanup.  A community member also helped investigators find those allegedly responsible.

Cedar City police found over fifty incidents within the park where suspects had vandalized or spray painted playground equipment, fences and signage. The damage is estimated to be around $5000.00.

Austin Bingham is with Cedar City parks.

"Mosty graffiti. They had done a little bit of damage to some of the equipment and facility."

Notice of the park’s closure was posted on the Cedar City Leisure Services Facebook page. A Wal-Mart employee who recalled selling paint to three juveniles on Friday saw the notice and called police.

Investigators were able to quickly identify all three.  Two of them have been taken into custody.  A third suspect has not yet been located.

The Cedar City Walmart is located only about two blocks from the park.
