The Dalai Lama Comes To Utah For The First Time in 15 Years

The Dalai Lama shared a message of peace and compassion at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City on Tuesday.

His positive attitude and laughter spread through the crowd of the sold-out arena. But he also had a heavy heart.

“A lot of problems which we humanity now facing,” he said. “So much killing and starvation. Same human being. Human being on the same planet. Very sad, very sad.”

The Dalai Lama discussed increased violence in the world. During his address, he explained how the world can come together to promote peace. He said one way to share peace is through science, because not everyone understands peace through religion.

“The religious base will not cover entire seven billion beings,” he said. “Simply use common sense, common experience and particularly scientific findings.”

The Dalai Lama said those who are religious shouldn’t rely on prayer to promote world peace. But rather, they should take action in their communities.

“Peace comes only through action. Not through prayer, not through blessing,” he said. “Who creates violence? Who destroys peace? Not God, but you".
