Many events throughout the state have been canceled due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic. Despite many county fairs already being canceled, the Cache County Fair and Rodeo committee announced on Wednesday that it still plans to hold the event.
This August, Cache County community members can still plan to attend the county fair and rodeo.
Craig Buttars, the Cache County Executive, has been working with the fair and rodeo committee to make this a safe event, despite the current pandemic.
“We will follow the phased guidelines that the governor has put forward," Buttars said. "And so it will depend a lot on what color we are whether in the low risk category or back to the green category, the new normal. It will depend a lot on what the current health guidelines are at that time. But we are making plans right now for of course, social distancing, as much as possible and sanitizing.”
To help follow social distancing between booths, the committee has been talking to Logan City to extend the grounds around the Aquatic Center due to its summer closure. The large dining tents will also not be laid out this year.
One of the biggest challenges the fair is facing is carrying out the rodeo.
“We're looking at the possibility of adding another rodeo on Saturday afternoon," Buttars said. "And possibly, then on Wednesday night. And then tickets in the arena can be sold in blocks. So a family could buy a block of tickets and then they could have the seats around those blocked so that the families could have a social distancing.”
The theme for the fair will be "Good and Plenty in 2020."
