Utah Coronavirus Update, Thursday, May 28

Utah has seen a total of 8,921 confirmed coronavirus cases, an increase of 215 from Wednesday. State epidemiologist Angela Dunn said though the daily increase is high, the low growth rate shows a plateau of new cases. The state’s average daily growth rate is now at 1.8%, according to Dunn, and Utah maintains a 5% positive testing rate of the 203,507 total tests conducted.

There have been 18 new hospitalizations from yesterday, bringing the total number of COVID-19-related hospitalizations to 734. Dunn said there are 97 current hospitalizations — a decrease from last week’s number. There have been two new deaths due to the virus, but one of the 106 deaths attributed to the coronavirus is being investigated as the individual was diagnosed more than 14 days prior to their death.
