Utah State Epidemiologist Stepping Down To Become Salt Lake County Health Department Head
Angela Dunn, one of Utah’s most prominent leaders during the COVID-19 pandemic, is stepping down as the state’s epidemiologist to become the executive health director of the Salt Lake County Head Department. According to FOX 13, the announcement was made Tuesday by Salt Lake County Major Jenny Wilson. She said she is “thrilled to welcome Dr. Dunn” to the county in this “critical role at this historic time.”
Dunn will replace the current department head, Gary Edwards, who will retire in July after 16 years with the department. Dunn will begin working June 1 so she will have the chance to work alongside Edwards during the transition.
Since the beginning of pandemic, Dunn has been a strong advocate for mask-wearing and social distancing. She rose to prominence this past year in Utah’s weekly COVID-19 news conferences, standing at the sides of former Gov. Herbert and Gov. Cox as she discussed trends and explained the importance of following safety measures.
