New Business Directory Working To Introduce Utahns To Local, Female Owned Businesses

The Women’s Business Center of Utah recently released an online Utah Women-Owned Business Directory to help promote women-owned businesses in the state.

One of the businesses on this directory is Butcher’s Bunches: a business creating no-sugar added jams and sauces in Logan, Utah.

Liz Canard-Butcher and her family started out their business at the Cache Valley Gardeners’ Market.

“I decided to take and make some jams one year and take them to the market and sell them and just see how it went," Canard-Butcher said. "Well, the first weekend I took no sugar added jam to the farmers market, we sold out. I took like a dozen cases of jam. I mean, we sold out within an hour at the farmers market here in Cache Valley.”

Within weeks, their jams could be picked up on 24 different store shelves, including retail chains like Harmons and Whole Foods.

“It's, you know, 12-13 years later, and we're still on that ride," Canard-Butcher said. "And we're still, you know, literally every month picking up a new huge vendor or huge client.”

Canard-Butcher’s business is family-inspired. The recipes were taught to her by her family in Europe, and the business itself was created for her son, Kenneth, who can’t have sugar or artificial preservatives. Kenneth is also the co-owner of the company.

“I love my family dearly," Canard-Butcher said. "I wouldn't be here without them, and my business wouldn't be here without my family either.”

When she started her business, she was one of the few women-owned businesses that she knew of in Cache Valley. She says that the best thing about the women-owned business directory is that it tells other women to “get out there and do it."

“You don't have to follow a man to create a business," Canard-Butcher said. "Any woman can do it and being part of this directory shows there are 1000s of us out there. I think that's the best thing it does, that we can inspire others.”
