FLDS Businesses Raided For Allegedly Misusing Federal Nutrition Assistance

Tuesday, federal law enforcement conducted raids on two businesses in the twin-FLDS polygamous towns of Hildale, Utah and Colorado City, Arizona. 

After a lengthy investigation, the Department of Justice alleges an established conspiracy to misuse and misdirect federal supplemental nutrition assistance program—or snap benefits, away from eligible recipients and to FLDS church leadership and other ineligible parties.

Lyle Jeffs, brother of jailed leader Warren Jeffs, and 10 others were arrested for conspiracy to commit fraud and money laundering.

Lyle Jeffs has been the defacto leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since his brother Warren Jeffs was jailed in Texas after being convicted on child rape and other charges.

Chris Holmes holds a Masters of Professional Communication degree from Southern Utah University. While at SUU his work received numerous awards including the 2009 King Foundation Best of Festival Award in the National Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts.
