Utah Highway Patrol says the number of arrests related to drunken driving dropped during the weekend before New Year's Day compared to the year before.
State police made 45 arrests for driving under the influence on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Lt. Todd Royce says Utah Highway Patrol made 46 DUI arrests just on New Year's Eve in 2016.
Royce says there were just as many troopers out on the road last weekend as there were the year before, but they did not find as many impaired drivers.
Royce says troopers are seeing more people drinking responsibly by having a sober friend or a ride-sharing service take them home.
