If Utah lands an NFL team, Cox doesn’t think taxpayers should pay for it

With talk about the National Football League possibly expanding, Governor Spencer Cox says he doesn’t know if there’s a limit to how hard he would push to get an NFL team in Utah.Recent reports claim the NFL is looking to expand and add more teams, and Salt Lake City has been mentioned as a potential market for a team. Cox says Utah is a fast-growing market and he “would be all over that” if the opportunity presented itself.

Cox says he believes a tax increment for Utahns to help fund the stadium could work but he doesn’t believe in giving billionaires money from taxpayers. He says it’s “terrible economics, it’s bad politics, it’s bad for the people.”

Cox also mentioned that the possibility of Utah getting a Major League Baseball team is higher than an NFL team at the moment.
