One person is dead and another is in critical condition after the driver of a Toyota sedan rear-ended a school bus in Cache County Monday afternoon. 19-year-old Amber Nielsen Crouch was a passenger in the vehicle. She died Monday night from her injuries.
Utah Highway Patrol Lieutenant Lee Perry says the vehicle was traveling near 55 miles per hour when the driver hit the bus. The driver of the bus just completed a drop-off and had re-entered the highway when the accident happened.
Perry says the front end of the white sedan was crushed when it became lodged underneath the back of the bus.
The crash happened at about 4 p.m. near 1780 West Center Street or State Route 61 in Lewiston. 32 elementary-aged students were on the bus, Perry said. None of them were injured.
The male driver of the car was injured and has been released from the hospital.
