Salt Lake City is also hosting its 20th annual marathon this weekend, which means road closures throughout the day.

Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020, all public school students have received free school breakfast and lunches as part of a coronavirus relief program. As students get ready to return to school this upcoming school year, that program is about to end.

In recent years, the Logan City School District has averaged roughly 800 children a day for the federally funded lunches, while the Cache County School District has been feeding around 2,000 a day.

As staffing shortages continue to hit school districts, the Salt Lake City School District’s student meal programs are about to be changed and food options will soon be cut.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic the Logan City School District was able to waive student lunch fees, but because of guidance given by the Utah State Department of Agriculture, these fees will return for the 2022-23 school year with an increase of 10 cents.
