The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food is sending out letters to businesses selling hemp products. The state is requiring product registration to help protect consumers and pay for oversight.

The Utah-based robotics company Sarcos is working to develop technologies to augment, instead of replacing humans working in the industrial, public safety and military sectors. The robotics company is receiving financial incentives from the Governor’s Office of Economic Development.

After completing many projects in Cache Valley, President of the Cache Chamber of Commerce Sandy Emile is retiring this month after 17 years of service. Some of the projects she worked on while in office include the 10th West truck route and improvements to the airport. Emile attributes the community’s success to working together and she said that’s what Cache Valley will need for the future.

Northern Utah Businesses Invest In Solar Power

Nestled between the Bear River Range and the Wellsville Mountains, winters in Cache Valley can be long, cold, and dark. That isn’t stopping some local businesses from investing in solar power. Sports Academy, a private gym in North Logan, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony this Monday on an 888 kilowatt solar array, now the biggest in the county.

For the first time in several years, Utah lawmakers did not discuss changes to the state's liquor laws during a legislative session despite a request by restaurant owners in the state to increase the number of licenses issued in Utah. 


Nearly 20 years after an earlier proposed merger was rejected by U.S. regulators, Staples says it is acquiring Office Depot for $6.3 billion. Combined, the two office supply giants would have annual sales of some $39 billion.

"Staples began discussions to acquire Office Depot in September 2014," the companies said in a news release. "The agreement has been unanimously approved by each company's Board of Directors."

For two decades Atlanta restaurant owner Jim Dunn offered a group health plan to his managers and helped pay for it. That ended Dec. 1, after the Affordable Care Act made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

Subsidies under the health law for workers to buy their own coverage combined with years of rising costs in the company plan made dropping the plan an obvious — though not easy — choice.
