Long-Term Road Construction In Future For City Of St. George

The 2016 Dixie Regional Transportation Expo begins next Tuesday, February 9th, at The Dixie Convention Center.

Travel demand has made an impact on St. George. The city has released their Regional 2016-2040 Transportation Long-Range Plan, focusing on road construction.

“Within that plan, there is about $1.9 billion worth of road projects that need to be built within the next 25 years, to accommodate the traffic that we anticipate that will come here as the population continues to grow.”

Bill Swenson, project manager, along with Myron Lee, of the Metropolitan Planning Organization, explained what will happen at the Expo this year, which include a chance to meet with the local police department and a bike rally group.

“(And) so we are excited to pull it off again this year, with upwards of 16 different booths that’ll cover anything from the local cities, our airport, the state of Utah, the Dixie MPO, Five County Association of Governments, as well as some ongoing and planning transportation projects.”

Swenson says St. George and surrounding areas will benefit from the Expo because they will learn what projects are going to be part of the city’s agenda.
