Heavy Snow Causes Slide Offs, Road Closures And Power Outages In Cedar City

Chris Holmes
A Tuesday morning snow storm dropped a foot or more of snow, closing roads and knocking out power to schools, businesses, homes and street lights in Cedar City.

Heavy snows in Iron County caused slide-offs, road closures and power outages throughout the region, Tuesday.  Interstate 15 northbound was closed early Tuesday morning, with more than a dozen big-rigs jack-knifed near Cedar City.

State Route 143 between Parowan and Brian Head was also closed.  Many who braved the treacherous driving conditions, arrived at school or work only to have their routines interrupted by power outages. John Dodds is principal in Cedar High School.

“Students were in classes, they were doing well, classes were going as normal and about a half hour ago we had the power go down,” Dodds said.

Classes at Fiddlers Elementary, in Cedar City, were canceled altogether, due to a power outage associated with more than a foot of snow early Tuesday, while other schools, businesses and homes had power restored by late morning.
