Ballotpedia

Gov. Spencer J Cox was inaugurated on Monday in St. George at the Tuacahn Center for the Arts, along with Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson. Monday was also the 125th anniversary of Utah’s statehood.

After taking the oath of office, Cox spoke to Utahns about valuable lessons from the pandemic and the importance of unity and change.

“We have learned that we are stronger than more resilient than we ever imagined as individuals," he said. "Communities, industries and countries have found ways to adapt and innovate through impossible circumstances.”

Lt. Gov. Henderson spoke about those who paved the way for the state of Utah and its citizens. This is the first time a Utah lt. governor spoke during the inauguration.

“With everything at stake, Utah’s early leaders armed with vision and answerable courage acted boldly," she said. "I’m here today because of those actions.”

The inauguration ceremony also included a live musical performance of “Homeward Bound” by David Archuleta and Nathan Pacheco. They were joined by Kendra Lowe, Darren Bradford and the Lux Choral Society.
