The Salt Lake International Airport was included in the Transportation Security Administration’s data of top 10 airports in the country for firearm discoveries in TSA checkpoints. TSA officials say at least 90 firearms have been discovered just this year, tying with the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.Officials shared that by Oct. 3 of this year, 4,495 guns were discovered in carry-on bags among 248 airports. This data has already broken the 20-year record for most firearms discovered at checkpoints in the country. According to a TSA press release, the previous record of firearms caught in a full year was 4,432 in 2019. Officials say improperly packed firearms, toys, replicas and BB guns were excluded from the data.
TSA Administrator David Pekoske says firearms present unnecessary risks and have “no place in the passenger cabin of an airplane.”
