Bill Aiming to End Statewide Mask Mandate Introduced In Senate

The Utah statewide mask mandate may soon be coming to an end. H.B. 294, Pandemic Emergency Powers Amendments, sponsored by Rep. Paul Ray, is aiming to terminate the statewide mask mandate. The bill has passed the House by a large margin, and if approved by two-thirds of the Senate and signed by Gov. Cox, it would go into effect immediately.

Ray’s plan would not apply to schools, groups of 50 or more people or places where social distancing is not possible.

The bill has a Senate Sponsor, Sen. Derrin Owens, but it’s unclear if it will get a vote on the floor because there’s only one day left of the Utah Legislative Session.
