Department of Energy funds energy-efficient infrastructure developments in Utah

The Department of Energy has awarded PacifiCorp $6.4 million to create a program to manage solar panels, batteries and electric vehicle charging stations as part of a new clean energy development.

The development will include all-electric buildings as well as a mass transit transportation center. Structures in the development are expected to be 30 percent more energy efficient than regular buildings.

This project is being managed by a large collaborative team from Utah State University, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Wasatch Energy Group, GIV Group, Utah Transit Authority, Packsize International, Open Systems International and Sonnen.  The planned locations of the buildings are in Herriman, Salt Lake City and North Logan.

Ellis Juhlin is a science reporter here at Utah Public Radio and a Master's Student at Utah State. She studies Ferruginous Hawk nestlings and the factors that influence their health. She loves our natural world and being part of wildlife research. Now, getting to communicate that kind of research to the UPR listeners through this position makes her love what she does even more. In her free time, you can find her outside on a trail with her partner Matt and her goofy pups Dodger and Finley. They love living in a place where there are year-round adventures to be had!
