Salt Lake expected to bid on 2024 Republican National Convention

Visit Salt Lake, the convention bureau and the Utah GOP are making a pitch in Washington D.C next week in hopes that Utah could host the next Republican National Convention in 2024. The event that’s held every four years is considered the official coronation of the party’s Presidential Candidate. It’s not Salt Lake’s first attempt at hosting the convention. Bids were made in 2012 and 2016. Other cities hoping to host in 2024 include Las Vegas, Nevada; Columbus, Ohio; Atlanta, Georgia; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The convention would bring in tens of thousands of people, millions of dollars in consumer spending and federal grants and journalists from around the world.

Utah officials have high hopes because Utah recently made a name for itself on the national political stage in the last election when it hosted the state’s first ever Vice-Presidential debate at the University of Utah.
