The U.S. Supreme Court upheld birthright citizenship in a June 30 ruling. However, refugee advocates say these "mixed-status" families still face barriers other citizens don't.

That's according to the latest Kids Count Data Book, which measures factors like education and community. However, advocates say there are some areas Utah needs to focus more on.

Licensed childcare providers meet only about 36% of the need in Utah, with rural communities being hit harder. That means that even if childcare were free, many would still not have access.
