For many residents in northern Utah, our characteristic mountains are shroud in a hazy smoke. The cold front that entered on Monday brought with it northwesterly and westerly winds carrying smoke from the many fires in the western United States.

When refugees and immigrants come to Utah, they bring with them different elements of their culture. As these individuals and families work to establish themselves in their new communities, some choose to open businesses featuring their native food.

A professor at the University of Utah recently co-authored a study exploring challenges faced by black male doctoral students. The six-year study followed 21 students earning doctorate degrees in engineering. It showed these students felt they were at the bottom of the hierarchy when it came to receiving resources from faculty members.

Utah State University announced on Tuesday that Francis D. Galey will be it’s new executive vice president and provost. Galey is currently the dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources as the University of Wyoming. He fills the position Noelle Cockett left vacant when she became university president in January 2017.

Utah Ranks Fourth In Nation For Financial Literacy

April is National Financial Literacy Month. In a recent report released by WalletHub, Utah ranked fourth in the nation for financial literacy.

The organization assessed the financial literacy of individuals with questions on topics like interest, stocks and investing. The report also analyzed financial education and consumer habits.
